Wildflower Nursery FAQ

Q. Is it better to plant established plants (plugs) or to sow seeds?

A. This depends on the size of the area you want to plant and how quickly you want to get results (although quicker results may still mean waiting a whole season!).

Plugs should be planted at 10 plants per square metre. Seeds should be sown at a rate determined by the type of seed you are sowing.

For larger areas, the following conversions may help:

1 square foot = 0.092 square metres
1 acre = 4,047 square metres
1 hectare = 10,000 square metres

Q: Can I buy bulbs from the Conservation Volunteers?

A: Yes, we can supply bluebell, snowdrop, wood anemone, ramsons (wild garlic), lesser celandine and wild daffodils.

Q: When is the best time to buy bulbs?

A: It is essential to buy bulbs early to avoid disappointment – we suggest no later than the first week in September.

Q: How and when should bulbs be planted?

A: Generally it is best to plant bulbs in autumn. For more specific details on individual bulbs, read about individual species in the plants section of this website.

Q: How can I buy plugs, bulbs or shrubs from you?
