DESIGNING PATHS AND ACCESS FOR THE COUNTRYSIDE

Many public paths are almost unusable due to poor design and construction.  Theoretical aspects of route planning, drainage, surfacing and edging will be considered along with site visits and a practical design exercise.

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS CERTIFICATE

This event will look at a wide range of current environmental problems including atmospheric pollution, resource usage, waste management, energy saving systems and environmental audits.  A certificate is available through Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, for those who pass a half-hour multiple choice test, which will be held at the end of the course and is optional.

STRIMMER USE & MAINTENANCE

This course will cover familiarisation with a petrol strimmer, maintenance, safety, techniques for using strimmers and how to solve the common problems which may occur.

LOOKING AT PONDS

The theory of pond and wetland biodiversity, management and establishment will be covered.  A range of recently created ponds will be visited and there will also be a session looking at aquatic invertebrates.

MANUAL HANDLING CERTIFICATE

Back injuries and other damage to muscles and tendons can easily result from the improper handling of even quite small objects.  Manual handling covers the correct way to handle any object being lifted or carried, and especially the heavier and difficult items. A certificate is available through Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, for those who pass a half-hour multiple choice test, which will be held at the end of the course and is optional.
