Environmental Conservation NVQ Levels 2 & 3
Environmental Conservation embodies rural and urban conservation of landscapes, flora and fauna, countryside recreation and interpretation, and associated landscape management, together with the maintenance and conservation of rivers, coasts and waterways. Environmental conservation overlaps with heritage conservation, archaeology and environmental management in its wider sense.
Environmental conservation impacts on all land, coastal and inland water use. Sustainable land management demands good environmental practice.
In the united kingdom there are 4,900 organisations employing 56,100 people in environmental conservation related work, as well as an estimated 200,000 volunteers working in the industry.

Availability and Prior Knowledge Requirements of the NVQ’s in Environmental Conservation
The Level 2 NVQ is suitable for somebody with some experience through volunteering or employment in conservation work. There is a wide choice of units making the NVQ quite flexible to individual interests. It is available through volunteering with Conservation Volunteers and for other groups by arrangement. Completion time is typically up to a year working on 1 day per week.
The Level 3 NVQ is only suitable for somebody who already works in a supervisory or managerial role relating to environmental conservation. Much of the evidence at Level 3 is diverse evidence - for example letters the candidate has written seeking funding or reporting on environmental quality.
