White Young Green gets muddy

Staff and children planting trees

White Young Green Ireland (WYG), the engineering, environmental, surveying, planning and project management consultancy, joined forces with us in March to plant trees in St. Peter’s High School in L’Derry and at Cave Hill in Belfast.

WYG supported our Northern Ireland Tree Campaign by sending staff members from its offices in the two cities to help pupils at St. Peter’s and Belfast City Council plant over 500 trees.

At St. Peter’s a mixture of native trees, including rowan, birch, cherry, hazel and oak, was chosen. For Cave Hill – and, more specifically, Hazelwood – we chose hazel grown from County Antrim hazelnuts.

Ray Moore, Group Managing Director of WYG Ireland, said: “It’s great to be working with Conservation Volunteers and local schools in this way. We’re very conscious that we don’t operate in a vacuum and that the work we do can affect our local communities. This tree planting initiative is an excellent way to work with schools and the surrounding area while doing our bit to help the environment.

“This is also part of a bigger environmental initiative for White Young Green. We have committed ourselves to reducing carbon dioxide emissions from business travel, and we’ve set in place processes to help us achieve that goal.”

WYG will be introducing shared travel schemes and video and web conferencing facilities to offices to reduce inter-office travel. There will also be an internal campaign to increase staff awareness of environmental issues.
