Where There's Muck...
2 October 2007
Our Tree Nursery has, for many years, imported large amounts of manure and compost to improve the soil for all the trees that are grown there. Now, for the first time, compost created by our green waste facility in Coleraine is being used instead.
The facility recycles all of Coleraine Council’s green waste and has carried out kerbside collections. Annual turnover of recycled green waste is in the region of 5000 tonnes!
Delivered 20 tonnes at a time, the gently steaming waste is spread on the Tree Nursery’s soil by an army of volunteers (and a tractor), and raked out ready for rotavating into the ground. New beds are then formed for growing next year’s trees in.
Well done Coleraine and well done Tree Nursery!
