Tree o'clock
3 December 2009
Conservation Volunteers are joining in with Tree o’clock on Saturday 5 December.
We are attempting to break the world record for the most trees planted in one hour in a single location on Saturday 5 December in Gransha Woodland in L/Derry.
The current record stands at 18,124 for the most trees planted in a single location and we are hoping for 100 people to plant around 20,000 native trees.
The “Tree o’clock” is part of BBC Breathing Places and Nadine Coyle, Girls Aloud star, will be on hand to help try and break the record.
The trees planted at Gransha will also count towards a UK-wide record attempt at the most trees planted in a country in a single hour. The current world record which stands at 653,143.
Locally we will have two other tree planting events to coincide with Tree o’clock. There will be tree planting in Eden, outside Carrickfergus, and at Oxford Island, Craigavon, which has been selected as one of Breathing Places special places this year.
Good Luck to everyone that is taking part in the events.
