Take a woodland walk at the Loughs Agency

28 July 2008

A path being constructed by volunteers

Our local L’Derry Conservation Action Team (CAT) was recently engaged to create a 90 metre long footpath at the Loughs Agency’s premises to give visitors and staff the ability to access and experience the adjacent woodland.

Conservation Volunteers also supplied nest and bug boxes for the area and Loughs Agency staff planted about 150 wildflowers. We will also create a picnic area beside the woodland later in the summer.

Our CATs carry out all sorts of practical projects across Northern Ireland, from pathwork to tree planting, hedge laying to dry stone walling, willow structures to whole garden transformations! If you think you might be able to make use of them, find out more about CATs here.

Riverwatch is the Loughs Agency’s interpretive centre located on the banks of the Foyle. It is an education resource and tourist attraction available to schools, communities and business organisations. Its aim is to ensure the environmental survival and maintain the economic benefits of the Foyle and Carlingford waterways through increasing the level of knowledge of those directly and indirectly using its resources.
