Saturday morning Green Gym

21 August 2007

People planting trees

Do you sometimes feel that you could be doing something better with your time at the weekend? Are you concerned about environmental issues? Do you want to be more active?

We have the answer for you – join the Green Gym on a Saturday morning.

Conservation Volunteers Northern Ireland are starting up Green Gym sessions at the weekend to offer people a more worthwhile alternative to normal gyms. Great for those of you who are wondering what is the point in trudging endlessly on a treadmill alongside some skinny lycra-clad person running twice as fast without breaking into a sweat. There has to be something more to exercise than this!

The Green Gym will involve a few hours work doing important activities such as woodland management, seed collecting or tree planting. You can work at your own pace, but there is always something to get your heart and muscles working. You need no previous experience or equipment. There will be some basic warm-up exercises and, unlike the normal gym, all sessions are free and you don,t have to sign up for a year! Whilst making a visible difference to the environment you can get fit, relieve stress, enjoy the great outdoors, and meet like-minded people.

Give it a try and do your bit for the world we live in.
