Playtrail shows children the way
26 May 2008
Pupils from two schools in L/Derry were out recently with Conservation Volunteers learning how to be friendly to wildlife.
Belmont House and Foyleview are special schools for children with both minor and severe learning difficulties. The children and their parents have, as part of an Extended School Programme, been out with Conservation Volunteers taking part in various workshops.
Workshops included; building a willow dome, planting wildflowers, path work, building nest boxes and learning how to be friendly to wildlife. These activities have taken place at the adventurous ‘Playtrail’ located within the school grounds and greeted in excess of 36,000 visitors in 2007.
The work has focused on improving the environment of the ‘Playtrail’ and the nearby woodland whilst being healthy, enjoyable and achieving goals according to each child’s individual abilities.
