Our Hero Ivan

Ivan, our Conservation Projects Development Officer in L’Derry, recently won Tesco magazine’s “My Dad’s a Hero” competition!

A 14-day trek to Kenya, a mini bus pull, climbing Ben Nevis, getting his legs waxed – all for charity. Ivan and his wife also fostered two girls from Chernobyl for the summer in 2007.

He went to Kenya in 2007 to help build houses and a school with the locals. In 2009 he went to Romania and built wells to improve the quality of life for the people there.

Ivan doesn’t make a song and dance about the work he does both inside and outside of Conservation Volunteers, so we’ll do it for him.

His work with Conservation Volunteers brings him close to a lot of people with mental health issues, disabilities and prisoners. One of his roles is helping to improve their lives and routes to employment.

Ivan’s daughter nominated her dad as she feels he doesn’t really know how great both she and her brother think he is!

As a reward Ivan and his wife were treated to a trip to England and a tour round Brands Hatch racing circuit.
