Omagh garden SWAT
25 June 2008
Omagh’s railway garden, situated on the Dromore Road received a welcome rejuvenation from our Fermanagh & Tyrone Conservation Action Team on 5 June as part of BBC Breathing Places.
The garden, which had become overgrown and unrecognisable, was chosen due to its tragic past when five rail workers were killed on the railway line in November 1950.
Trees were trimmed, new shrubs planted, existing shrubs pruned and major clearance work undertaken in a bid to highlight the garden and its memorial plinth.
Local dignitaries attended the event and relatives of the deceased were delighted with the outcome and praised the hard work put by all the volunteers as part of the Springwatch Action Team (SWAT).
