Indian Summer

31 August 2007

Staff and volunteers from Conservation Volunteers supported this year’s Indian Mela on the August Bank Holiday in Botanic Park. Fielding a range of questions from some of the 8000 people who attended on the day, representatives from Conservation Volunteers were on hand to give out information on volunteering, environmental improvements and ways we can support local community groups in Belfast and beyond.

The Mela (Indian word meaning festival) was a celebration of Indian culture and art and the event attracted a large number of local residents to sample traditional food and music. Conservation Volunteers provided a photographic display of recent work carried out with the Indian Community Centre and hope the event will attract more volunteers from Minority Ethnic backgrounds to join the organisation.
