Green Heroes winners

The Belfast Mental Health Trust OT Services has been awarded the BTCV Green Hero Award for ‘Local Partnership’ in Northern Ireland.

The Green Heroes Awards are given out in recognition of the outstanding work carried out by volunteers of all ages across the UK to improve their local environment.

Working across Mental Health Services in the Belfast Trust area the OT Department, Health Improvements and Health Promotion staff have been fully engaged in the development of the Mater and Shannon Green Gym Projects.

The partnership began in March 2006 and has been continuous ever since. The Mental Health OT Department provides OT and nursing staff on a weekly basis to support Conservation Volunteers’ Green Gym, enabling all individuals to become fully involved in the Green Gym.

The OT staff have incorporated the Green Gym into individual’s care plans as they believe it fills a gap in their existing services due to the nature of the project. Together with the Green Gym, the Mental Health Service within the Belfast Trust have been able to deliver their ethos of recovery which emphasises empowerment, facilitating social inclusion in local communities and treating people with equality and respect.

Conservation volunteers would like to congratulate the Belfast Mental Health OT Services on winning this award and wish them continued success for the future.
