Green Heroes Awards ceremony

The Regional Green Hero Awards ceremony was held in Clandeboye Estate on Friday 23 October.
The Green Heroes Awards are given out in recognition of the outstanding work volunteers of all ages carry out across Northern Ireland to improve their local environment.
There were six awards, with Marion Gallagher from the Department for Social Development presenting them. The winners were:
- Volunteer of the Year – Stephen McCool
- Young Volunteer of the Year – Garry Tilbury
- Better Life award – Sean Fowler
- Project of the Year – Garden of Eden allotments
- Community Group of the Year – L/Derry Conservation Action Team
- Local Partnership award – The Belfast Mental Health Trust OT Services
The people who nominated their Green Heroes spoke briefly about why they made their nominations, reminding us just how hard the volunteers work and how much they deserve these awards. The winners all received a certificate and vouchers for the BTCV Shop.
The Garden of Eden allotment project also had a special presentation as they have recently been announced as the BTCV Green Hero winners (selected from the reional winners) in their category. Nichola Browne, Physical Activity co-ordinater with the Northern Health and Social Care Trust spoke about the group as well as Angela Creighton from Mindwise, followed by a poem about the group from Conservation Volunteers Projects Manager Helen Tomb.
This year’s Green Hero Awards have been a great success and everyone at Conservation Volunteers would like to congratulate all the winners and all those nominated for the awards.
