Glen Going Green
22 February 2008
During the past year, six clean ups took place in the Greater Glen area of L/Derry, undertaken by Conservation Volunteers and the Holywell Trust. As a follow up from this co-operation, Conservation Volunteers’ L/Derry team have, for some Saturdays, been out working with the Greater Glen Women’s Group, who, thanks to a community grant obtained from O2, were set to brighten up the area and create a more friendly environment for the residents in the Glen area.
Bronagh Masoliver, spokesperson for Glen Women’s Group said “This funding will allow us to plant a herb garden with climbing plants, shrubs, a rockery and flower display in four different areas. It is important that we work collectively to try to create a safer and cleaner environment for everyone”.
The work has directly involved young people from local schools and residents, in the organising and planting of these new garden areas. At this stage there are still a few work days left until the project comes to its end but the residents can already enjoy their new and improved surroundings.
This project is jointly supported by Conservation Volunteers and Derry City Council.
