Garry - Young Volunteer of the Year
30 September 2009
Another local Green Hero, Garry Tilbury, has become our Young Volunteer of the Year. The Green Hero Awards are given out in recognition of the outstanding work volunteers of all ages do across Northern Ireland to improve their local environment.
Garry became involved with Conservation Volunteers last year as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Award service section and has continued to volunteer with the Green Gym project. The Green Gym is a health initiative offering individuals an outdoor alternative to conventional gyms and the opportunity to increase their physical activity levels through direct involvement in practical conservation activities.
Garry was nominated by Lindsay McManamon a Green Gym project officer. Lindsay said “Garry is always encouraging and welcoming to anyone that he has worked with.”
The work Garry has carried out while he has been volunteering has all been directed towards creating a better environment. Garry said he has been able to pass on some of the knowledge and skills he has learnt while volunteering for Conservation Volunteers. “I like to come out and volunteer because it’s great to see the way things come together at the end of the day.”
Conservation Volunteers are very proud of Garry and would like to congratulate him on winning this award.
