Conservation Volunteers and Sustrans
26 February 2008
Conservation Volunteers continued their project with Sustrans in East Belfast with a community treeplanting day on Saturday 16 February. Fifteen local people teamed up staff and volunteers from Sustrans and Conservation Volunteers to help plant native trees at Bloomfield
Walkway.
The volunteers planted a mixture of native trees including silver birch, rowan, hazel and bird cherry to help enhance the otherwise bland landscape of the walkway. Six young local lads joined the working party as part of their work towards the John Muir Award.
The teenagers are also travelling to Spain in April for a trek to volunteer on local conservation projects.
The project in East Belfast will continue with local schoolchildren becoming involved in the next stage of the treeplanting.
