Celebrating National Tree Week and Biodiversity in Coleraine
5 December 2008
Local school children marked the start of the tree planting season at Cornfield Community Woodland on 27 November.
Around 200 pupils braved the cold weather to plant a variety of native trees with Conservation Volunteers and meet the Mayor, Councillor David Barbour, who also kindly assisted with the tree planting.
Jack Chestnutt, Field Officer with Conservation Volunteers said “Seeing all these people out tree planting is fantastic. All the children have shown great enthusiasm, and it is wonderful to have the support of all the schools involved.
“These young trees that have been planted will all help increase local biodiversity; by providing wildlife habitat.
“One of the main aims and objectives of Conservation Volunteers is to see as many people as possible from all backgrounds volunteering in a range of projects which care for their local environment.”
To this end, Conservation Volunteers in Coleraine can provide advice, practical support and guidance in applying for funding.
