Carbon Army
1 December 2009
Conservation Volunteers recently launched BTCV’s Carbon Army in Northern Ireland with a tree planting event in Old Colin Woodland.
During the first three weeks of December BTCV hopes to carry out 3,000 days of action – one day for each of the 3,000 delegates attending the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.
The campaign aims to make a visible statement of our commitment to tackling climate change.
The event was attended by Bairbre de BrĂșn MEP as well as two local primary schools, Our Lady Queen of Peace and Botanic Primary Schools. Joined by European and local volunteers, everyone enjoyed working in bright November sunshine in planting trees to enhance the local woodland area.
Bairbre de BrĂșn, who will be attending the conference, said “As I travel to the UN climate summit in Copenhagen as part of the official European Parliament delegation, I will bring with me the encouragement of the environmental volunteers involved in Days of Action here at home. This is a great initiative and I would encourage young and old alike to participate.”
Conservation Volunteers will be running various events throughout December. You can find a list of these events here.
