Volunteers planting shrubs

Pupils from St. Bernadette’s Primary School in Ballymurphy got their hands dirty planting shrubs as part of our ‘Spring into Action’ campaign.

Eighteen pupils from P6 helped plant 50 shrubs in a green space near the Top of the Rock Healthy Living Centre on the Upper Springfield Road, Belfast. The overgrown area had been cleared of litter and was given a makeover by the pupils, increasing the biodiversity value of the site.

Conservation Volunteers have been working with the Upper Springfield Development Company and pupils from St Bernadette’s and St Aidans’ as part of a BBC Breathing Places project. The project has involved site visits to the Copeland Bird Observatory and Crawfordsburn Country Park and will continue with native wildflower planting in the grounds of both schools.

Pupils from St Aidan’s primary School will also help plant shrubs in a second green space in the area as well as carry out a litter lift.
