Best Kept Small School!!
10 July 2007
One of the schools that the Northern Ireland Tree Campaign gave free trees to in winter 2005/2006 has recently won the Best Kept Small School in Belfast award.
Glenbank Nursery, in the north of the city, received the award for all the hard work it has done improving its school grounds for the benefit of the children and local wildlife.
The Northern Ireland Tree Campaign gave the nursery enough native hedging plants to create a new hedge along the boundary. In years to come, this will not only provide valuable shelter and food for birds and insects, but it will also provide the children with welcome shelter from the cold winds that blow off the Belfast hills!
The new hedge was also mulched with landscaping fabric and wood chips and edged with wooden logs to protect the trees from mowing damage and keep moisture in and weeds away!
As a result, the hedge looks great in what is now its second season. Congratulations to Glenbank Nursery!!
