A load of old rubbish!

12 February 2009

Children with rubbish collected

A new project in an Antrim primary school got underway with children getting their hands dirty to improve their school grounds.

Pupils in the Environmental Club at Parkhall Primary School got stuck in with their litter pickers to clean up rubbish discarded in their school grounds.

The twenty one pupils gathered all sorts of rubbish including crisp packets, plastic drinks bottles, sofa cushions, waste timber and a dolls pram!

The group were amazed at how much rubbish was found around the school and are determined not to allow the rubbish gather again.

The Environmental Club will run every Monday afternoon and the children will take part in a range of environmental activities as well as creating a wildlife garden and outdoor classroom within the grounds.

The project is funded through the Extended Schools programme and Northern Ireland Environment Agency.
