A former volunteer applied for trees to plant locally in Belleek with a view to bringing children from the local primary school and his mother’s club for elderly people together. Not only was this a project that crossed the generations, it also crossed political boundaries too, as it involved people from south of the border.
A mixture of locally native trees was chosen to enhance the existing trees surrounding a field and to provide shelter for local housing. It is hoped that the species chosen will also help to support an even wider range of birds and other animals.
Children from Belleek Primary School and the Young at Heart Club joined forces to plant the trees on a bright and blustery Fermanagh day. We were fortunate that the rain stayed away – one of the better days in this part of the world!
