Date: 22 February 2007

No. of trees planted: 247

No. of people involved: 112

Silverstream Primary School has large well-cared for grounds. They have a nice willow dome, plenty of flowers and some trees. The school applied for some more big trees to add to the previous ones and lots of hawthorn trees to make a hedge between the car park and the lawn area.

We were very lucky to have a lot of volunteers as every class in the school went out to plant their new trees with us. The tree planting session started with the nursery kids that where eager to walk through the damp grass to plant their first tree near the fence of the school!

With their hands on the spades and equipped with their wellies P1, P2 and P3 were in charge of planting three more big trees in the same area. After lunch break, the rest of the children planted, on their own, all of the small hawthorn trees that, at the end of the day, became the start of a hedge. Hopefully, in some years, this hedge with its berries will provide a hint of color and a source of food for wildlife for many years.
