Under the shadow of Binevenagh lies the Magilligan Community Centre. Whilst the slopes of the hill are quite well forested with a mixture of native woodland and plantation, the surrounding villages have relatively few trees. Laura Madden of the community centre was one of the first to contact us about our free trees.
The local nursery school and a number of other helpers came out to plant a small area with downy birch and rowan trees – hardy species for this exposed part of the world. The youngest tree planters are often the most enthusiastic and this proved to be no exception. In only 45 minutes, all the trees were planted and a refuelling of orange juice and biscuits was required by all!
