Holy Rosary Primary School, Belfast (2008)

Date: 20 March 2008
No. of trees planted: 50
No. of people involved: 14
We arrived at Holy Rosary Primary School, Belfast on a cold and wet Thursday morning. The schoolchildren, along with us, their teacher and teaching assistant, planted hawthorn, blackthorn and hazel trees to create a hedge along the fence at the rear of the school. The class also provided some trees of their own including some holly trees.
The children listened carefully to all their instructions and worked really hard despite the rain. By the end of the morning the newly planted trees zigzagged neatly along the previously bare metal railings. Mulch matting was laid to help the trees establish and everyone agreed that the new hedging will enhance the area in years to come as well as adding to the security of the school grounds.
After the planting, the children and teachers went off for their well-deserved Easter Holidays.
