Holy Rosary Primary School, Belfast (2007)

The group of tree planters

Date: 14 March 2007

No. of trees planted: 10

No. of people involved: 23

Once more we were back at Holy Rosary Primary School (we were there for an Autumn Seed Harvest workshop in October) for one of our tree-planting sessions. This time the school applied for some trees to create a mini-woodland area near a fence in the school.

A very enthusiastic group of children came out to plant their trees with us. Although the ground was quite muddy, the children were eager to grab the spades and dig on their own the ten holes for their new trees. Underneath, everybody was surprised and satisfied to find nice soil for their trees, full of worms that were safely put back into the soil after being observed by our young nature lovers.

At the end of the session, 10 grey willow and downy birch trees were successfully planted and our helpers went back to the school for a well-deserved lunch. In a few weeks the trees will start to add some greenery to the school attracting birds and insects to this area.
