Field Studies Council, Derrygonnelly

Date: 3 February 2006
No. of trees planted: 600
No. of people involved: 42
Pupils from two local schools took a welcome break from school to help us help the Field Studies Council plant a hedge along a new boundary fence.
The ground where we planted was quite boggy (this is Fermanagh!), so we reflected this by choosing some damp-loving trees amongst the hawthorn – trees like willow and alder.
The pupils were very keen and planted in what seemed like record time. Afterwards, we protected the new trees from weed competition by mulching the new hedge.
