Edentrillick Quarry, Co. Down

Date: 29 November 2007
No. of trees planted: 151
No. of people involved: 40
On a crisp, bright November morning, we turned up at Edentrillick Quarry ready to meet children from a local primary school.
Before the tree planting activities got under way, the children, dressed in high visability jackets and hard hats, set off for a tour of the quarry.
The minibus was dwarfed by the quarry machinery, but everyone was given an insight into the workings of quarries.
After the tour and still in their hard hats, the children set about making light work of the trees, which were planted into a bank by the side of the River Lagan. The bank was created to prevent runoff from the quarry causing problems in the river, but it will also provide valuable food and shelter for the local animal population.
