Earlview Primary School applied to the Northern Ireland Tree Campaign for some trees to replace smaller ones that had been subjected to lawn mowers and menacing little hands! In order to give the trees a head start, we carefully planted larger trees which were staked and mulched to give them extra protection.
With spades in hand and despite the cold the kids were very eager to get digging. They all couldn’t wait to muck in – especially one little girl who took great delight in climbing into the holes to lift out the bigger stones. All very positive apart from the fact that she was wearing white tights with lovely boots which ultimately ended up totally covered in mud – I’m sure her mother was pleased!!
Each child also got an opportunity to plant a small tree of their own that was donated to the school by The Woodland Trust.
The kids were so enthusiastic they gave their trees a name! Once established these trees will provide some shelter from the wind as well as providing a pleasant leafy barrier between the school and a factory.
