In the shadow of the Mournes (almost), two intrepid volunteers from the Railway Museum braved the chill in the air to plant an area of their grounds with native trees.
A mixture of hawthorn, hazel, oak, rowan, spindle, ash and birch were planted in very stony ground. This area had been recently used for access to build a new supermarket and had been reinstated by the builders.
The railway is a registered charity and is run by volunteers. This planting is part of a wider plan to improve habitat along the railway line.
