On a beautiful cold and frosty morning, with not a cloud in the sky, members of Blackhead Angling Club and staff and volunteers from Conservation Volunteers planted a new hedgerow.
The club have been making improvements to the river’s edge for many years and wanted to increase the variety of trees along the river – thus increasing the variety and abundance of food for fish.
Hawthorn is a particularly great source of insects that fish eat and it’s hoped that this new 100m hedgerow will support a greater number of fish in the river for years to come… and not just of benefit to anglers, but for the local kingfishers too!
