Beechlawn School was the first to apply to the Northern Ireland Tree Campaign for free trees. Two areas around the school, which is close to Hillsborough Forest, were to be planted with a mix of native trees.
The morning session, after an overnight frost, was bathed in sunshine. The ground was quite stony though, which made the work a little tougher than expected, but the children made light work of their task.
In the afternoon, we moved to the second area, which is blessed with some of the easiest soil ever seen for tree planting! In no time at all, the rest of the trees had been planted and the children could go home satisfied of a day’s work well done.
