Ballyduff Primary School, Newtownabbey

Date: 25 January 2006
No. of trees planted: 20
No. of people involved: 88
Having a large amount of green space around your school doesn’t necessarily mean it’s great for wildlife. Ballyduff Primary School has a lot of grass, but its attempts to plant trees in the past have largely failed due to vandalism.
Involving the children in the planting of trees is a great way to instill a sense of respect for trees and it is hoped that the 20 new trees around the school will survive to provide valuable habitat for birds and insects.
The children enjoyed the occasion – not least because the sun was shining and they were out of class!
