Conservation Volunteers Northern Ireland have been working with the Ardmonagh Family and Community Group for some time now helping to improve their garden and involve the community in growing vegetables. The site has wonderful views over Belfast, but is also very exposed. Past development has removed a number of hedgerows from the area.
The group applied for a mix of trees to try to reinstate a traditional hedgerow to screen the gardens and to provide some shelter from the wind – as well as providing valuable habitat for the local wildlife.
