Another part of the Connswater Community Greenway project delivered by Conservation Volunteers was an organic gardening course for beginners to a group of budding gardeners.
The day included a visit to the Eden allotment site (Northern Ireland’s largest allotment) in Carrickfergus to stimulate ideas for the Connswater Community Greenway project.
The organic gardening course gave advice and ideas to the beginners, with practical examples shown on site. The course included advice on the best tools to use, learning about compost, testing the pH of the soil and advice on growing fruit and vegetables.
“Food growing hasn’t been as popular since the end of the war. It’s great to see so many people interested in growing their own fruit and vegetables”, said Helen Tomb.
As part of the ongoing project, Conservation Volunteers will be delivering more of these practical action days. The next will be on 13 March, to cleargorse in Cregagh Glen. For more information on this and more, contact Helen on 028 9064 5169 or
