New roads from old

8 August 2008

Our “Tree Nursery (link to Tree Nursery)”:http://www.cvni.org/treenursery has now begun to use an excellent new material for road building, path making, etc.

Tarmac now sell, quite reasonably, what really is recycled aggregate products from new road building, demolition, etc.

So far this has been a mixture of old tarmac, bits of flags and stones of various sizes but, with the majority being easily workable tarmac, this can be spread with little bother.

A bit of care is needed to make sure the bigger pieces are covered so as not to cause someone to trip but this is a small price to pay for the satisfaction of using a recycled aggregate.

Peter, a spokesman from Tarmac Waste, pointed out that virgin aggregate is not infinite and that their business had corporate social responsibility to do their bit to recycle this perfectly usable material instead of having it go to landfill sites.

This could be seen as a positive step in the right direction and one that now seems should have been done long ago - but better late than never.
