On Saturday 3rd December 2011, a group of brave people abseiled 100ft off the roof of the Radisson Blu Hotel in Belfast all in the name of charity.
The sun was shining and things got quickly underway with the arrival of the Lord Mayor of Belfast and plenty of friends and family turning up to support the abseilers as they made their descent.
The adrenaline-fuelled challenge was part of our new activity fundraising programme, and staff and members of the public were invited to sign up and take part. There was an amazing response to the Santa abseil and all the places were filled very quickly.
The abseil was organised to give people the opportunity to push themselves and do something different with their usual Saturday, whilst raising funds for their Conservation Volunteers.
Congratulations to all the staff at the Radisson Blu Hotel for providing the venue and the participants who took part on the day and for their hard work in gaining sponsorship.
The total amount raised has yet to be confirmed as sponsorship money is still coming in, but is estimated to be more than £2,000.
This is amazing amount of money, and will all be going to support to the hard work of willing volunteers. Volunteers who, without the money to buy things like tools, vegetable seeds and other essential supplies, wouldbe powerless to act.
Thank you to all our participants for their support and for making the Conservation Volunteers abseil a memorable event for all.
Watch this space for 2012 events programme, there will be events to suit all ages and abilities.
