Energising Communities in Newtownabbey

Conservation Volunteers Northern Ireland (CVNI) have taken the final step in their yearlong project in the Newtownabbey area.

“Energising Communities in Newtownabbey” was a community initiative managed by CVNI on behalf of the Newtownabbey Local Strategy Partnership (LSP). It involves the community, key stakeholders, and private, public and statutory organisations working together within the area. The Initiative was funded by the European Programme for Peace and Reconciliation.

Aims

The Initiative aimed to encourage residents to highlight issues and problems within their local community and identify possible solutions. Through a process of community consultation and development, the project aimed to build a sustainable community infrastructure. It encouraged residents to start further projects on their own, developing networks and local strategies for improvement.

The success of the Initiative depended on the involvement of local residents and community groups. It was therefore crucial that residents and both voluntary and statutory agencies worked together.
