Neighbourhood Renewal Armagh

Conservation Volunteers has launched a new community project in Armagh in partnership with Armagh and Dungannon Health Action Zone and Armagh City and District Council Local Strategy Partnership.

The ‘Neighbourhood Renewal Initiative’ will provide assistance to community groups for the social and environmental regeneration of disadvantaged areas within the Armagh and City District area and is funded by the European Programme for Peace and Reconciliation.

The project is focused on local communities achieving environmental improvements to green spaces within their local area, enhancing landscapes for both wildlife and recreation. Conservation Volunteers can help with identifying a potential project, project design and community involvement.

Local groups are invited to identify possible projects or areas for environmental development and we can assist with project ideas and planning. Groups are also encouraged to identify training needs to allow their group to develop and carry out future projects.

We hope to attract a high level of local involvement with the various projects and volunteers will have the opportunity to become involved in a wide range of activities, develop new skills and participate in local community developments.

Ten projects will be selected over the next two years. Each project should involve a high level of local support and practical involvement, opportunities for school participation and cross community working. Examples of possible projects include the creation of a community garden, renovation of neglected areas or improving wildlife areas.

Assistance with selected projects can include:

  • Up to £5000 towards materials and project development
  • Advice on project planning and design
  • Training for your community group, volunteers and local residents
  • Assistance with community development and networking
  • Involvement of statutory agencies
  • Sourcing and securing additional funding
  • Development of your group

If you would like to discuss or propose a project for the award or if you would like more information on the Neighbourhood Renewal Initiative, please contact Helen Tomb at Conservation Volunteers, Beech House, 159 Ravenhill Road, Belfast, BT6 0BP.
